Gift Aid claiming
Hi all – a note from Douglas, County treasurer regarding claiming of gift aid:
The way to do it is for either the group or District to claim the Gift Aid on behalf of the participants. Therefore the Group/District will receive the sponsorship and claim Gift Aid. The total of these two should then be sent on to me and I will credit it to the various participants specified by the Group/District. Towards the end we will have to stop the standing order or repay the participants.It is not my intention to repay anybody who has received sponsorship money which has been made out to Central Yorkshire County Scout Council. All what will happen is that either the standing order will be for a lesser period or there will be a refund due to the participant.
County is not set up to claim gift aid in this way, unlike local groups and districts. Therefore please claim through your group/district and send the full amount on to Douglas.
Hope that’s OK with everyone. As ever, any questions, just get in touch…
Badge info
Hi everyone – we’ve had some more info about badges and their placement on uniforms. Please see below from John, County Commissioner;
Firstly, the national jamboree badge with a red border can only be worn by members of the national contingent (I.e. including Central Yorkshire Pir8 unit members) and is worn above the left breast pocket.
Secondly, the solidarity badge can be worn by anyone except the unit members and again that is worn above the left breast pocket (hence would clash with the contingent badge for unit members so not worn by them).
The Pir8 unit badge may only be worn on uniform if approved by County and if it does get approved it will then only be worn on uniform by Central Yorkshire Unit members
Hope that clarifies things for people.
We have also had queries on badge prices – the solidarity badge should be sold at £1.20 as this is the available price from scout shops – talk to your local groups about buying through you though as at least you then get the benefit of the badge sale, as well as Operation One World (the solidarity project).
The unit badge price is debatable. Other units are now starting to sell their badges from anywhere between £2 and £3.50. The going rate seems to be £2.50 (which includes postage) and as such we recommend that the unit badge price is therefore £2.50 when selling on. That should be enough to make a couple of quid out of each badge!
We are still waiting for some order forms to come back though so get your orders in ASAP!
