CONTINGENT CATALOGUE

To all members -
.
It is my delight to let you know that the UK Contingent catalogue is now out for you special special people to choose from! Including a whole section of kit that you get as part of the overall Jamboree fee (see the “Contingent Issue” link on the left as you log in), there is so much to choose from it’s amazing! I have sent a paper copy of the catalogue to all unit members, but you can also view and order items online. For info, along with a catalogue for every member, I have also received YOUR CONTINGENT NECKERS AND UNIT BADGES! YARGH! We will have these out at the December camp. All other UK contingent kit will be with you in April (to be handed out at the April camp)
.
Additional items can be bought by yourselves to either swap on the Jamboree itself or to keep forever – up to you. I would advise you to think about whether to buy things in order to swap, sometimes you can get all sorts on a Jamboree and from experience a UK necker is a much sought after item (and can be swapped form all sorts of things!). You can swap anything, including any badges that you take with you which you have collected, UK themed goodies or anything else scouting. Please remember though, all items in the catalogue are optional – I am not telling you to buy anything – order what you want. Anything ordered will be with you before June 2011.
.
Key thing to remember
CLOSING DATE FOR ORDERS IS 30TH OF NOVEMBER.

Gift Aid claiming

Hi all – a note from Douglas, County treasurer regarding claiming of gift aid:

The way to do it is for either the group or District to claim the Gift Aid on behalf of the participants.  Therefore the Group/District will receive the sponsorship and claim Gift Aid.  The total of these two should then be sent on to me and I will credit it to the various participants specified by the Group/District.  Towards the end we will have to stop the standing order or repay the participants.
It is not my intention to repay anybody who has received sponsorship money which has been made out to Central Yorkshire County Scout Council.  All what will happen is that either the standing order will be for a lesser period or there will be a refund due to the participant.

County is not set up to claim gift aid in this way, unlike local groups and districts. Therefore please claim through your group/district and send the full amount on to Douglas.

Hope that’s OK with everyone. As ever, any questions, just get in touch…

Badge info

Hi everyone – we’ve had some more info about badges and their placement on uniforms. Please see below from John, County Commissioner;

Firstly, the national jamboree badge with a red border can only be worn by members of the national contingent (I.e. including Central Yorkshire Pir8 unit members) and is worn above the left breast pocket.

Secondly, the solidarity badge can be worn by anyone except the unit members and again that is worn above the left breast pocket (hence would clash with the contingent badge for unit members so not worn by them).

The Pir8 unit badge may only be worn on uniform if approved by County and if it does get approved it will then only be worn on uniform by Central Yorkshire Unit members

Hope that clarifies things for people.

We have also had queries on badge prices – the solidarity badge should be sold at £1.20 as this is the available price from scout shops – talk to your local groups about buying through you though as at least you then get the benefit of the badge sale, as well as Operation One World (the solidarity project).

The unit badge price is debatable. Other units are now starting to sell their badges from anywhere between £2 and £3.50. The going rate seems to be £2.50 (which includes postage) and as such we recommend that the unit badge price  is therefore £2.50 when selling on. That should be enough to make a couple of quid out of each badge!

We are still waiting for some order forms to come back though so get your orders in ASAP!

Have you booked your Scout Group Christmas Party yet?

All – John ‘Chil’ Williams has a Christmas offer for you all you Parents, Leaders and adult Friends out there! Being a member of the Village hotels, he can get preferential rates on many things including drinks, room rates and event tickets. This allows him to fund raise in a special way, so have a read of the below and get in touch with him if you are interested!
————————————————————————————————
Dear All,
Have you and your fellow leaders planned your Scout Group Christmas Party?
Why not join 8th South Leeds (Carlton) Leaders, parents and friends for a FABULOUS night of food, wine, fun and frolics at a Kylie Tribute Event on the 20th December 2010? (We missed the ABBA event – but we could theme the post Kylie disco for a more Swedish feel!)
We are charging £30 a ticket and for this you will get:
  • 3 course meal
  • Kylie tribute act
  • Disco
  • Late bar
  • Half bottle of wine
All proceeds will go towards supporting the attendance of 2 Carlton Scouts at the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011. You all know (and love) Joe Philbin and Karis Williams!
.
(N.B. although tickets are £25 from the hotel, no proceeds go to Karis or Joe when you buy tickets from them, hence the £5 extra. Plus, As John is a member of the hotel he can get the tickets for £20 cost which helps them raise £10 per ticket!)
.
Any surplus that we raise at this, or other events related to the Jamboree will be donated to fund the attendance of Unit Leaders and/or other Delegates less successful at raising funds to attend the Jamboree.
.
Alcohol WILL be served - so over 18′s ONLY!
.
If this works – and it WILL – we intend to repeat the event regularly to raise funds for similarly good causes within Scouting. So bring your mates, and get them to bring their mates!
.
Seriously – this is a chance to let your hair down with other Leaders – and to introduce parents and other family members to the fun of adult scouting. Please help us raise funds – and we’ll help you to attract new adults to your Group!
.
Please note: LIMITED SEATS AVAILABLE – only the first 180 to pay can come!
.
(If we get more than 100 bookings Senior Jamboree Unit Leader Paul Scurrah gets drinks free all night – and that WILL be fun!)
.

If your Group books 6 places by 8th October I’ll add a bottle of wine to your table (after that you’ll need 10 places for a free bottle!). This is why I need names and Groups on the payment – you don’t need to wait until you’ve got enough – get the bookings in to secure your place!
.
There will be a bar all night – but extra wine can be purchased for your table until 5th December at a discount (it is available at full price on the night too!). Please contact me for details and a price list. You’ll get this at cost from me – we couldn’t make a profit on your alcohol!
.
Those who wish to stay over at the hotel are welcome to book through me (and the discount I get for being a member will go to the fund!)
.
The room rate that night is £52 for double occupancy – including Full English Breakfast. Hotel guests may also make full use of the top class leisure facilities during their stay. Go on – treat yourself!
